Shopify is designed for eCommerce but can work for non-e-commerce businesses. However, there may be better options available to you like WordPress.

And if you already have a massive online business, then Shopify may not be the best option for you but you never know!

Highly complex purchase options or unconventional workflows in the purchase project may mean another platform would be more suited to you, but again, the only way to find out is to talk to us and we will give you an honest appraisal of what you can achieve on various platforms and the costs involved.

The answer to this question really depends on how much revenue you plan to make from your Shopify store.

Shopify’s business model is to get you in the door at $29USD per month, however, if you rely on a third party payment gateway such as AfterPay, PayPal or similar, then you will pay an extra 2% of sales in fees. Compare this to the $79 USD per month plan where you only pay 1.0% on third parties and 0.5% of revenue on the $299 USD per month plan.

This is all in addition to the fee charged by the payment processor such as AfterPay (6%) or PayPal (2%).

If your store is selling $20,000/month in sales, this is how it plays out:

  • $29/m plan: $20,000 x 2% = $400 + $29 = $429/month + payment fees
  • $79/m plan: $20,000 x 1% = $200 + $79 = $279/month + payment fees
  • $299/m plan: $20,000 x 0.5% = $100 + $299 = $399/month + payment fees

It’s best to work out how much you plan to make per month and then do the calculations above substituting your monthly revenue to clearly see which plan is better value.

Of course, you can always start small and upgrade as you go along. That’s what most Shopify retailers do in the early days of their businesses.

There are alternative website platforms that do not have such high fees and we are happy to discuss these with you. Shopify is an excellent platform for the right business and right situation but the fees add up quickly in certain scenarios.

This really depends on the features you plan to use on your website. If you have an idea of what functionality you would like to have on your website, we can recommend the best Shopify apps to achieve this. We can also guide you with the Shopify apps that other stores find helpful.

It’s difficult to give one answer since so many factors come into play. Generally, the best theme to choose is the one that converts the highest number of visitors into sales. However, there is far more at play than just the theme itself when it comes to conversion rate optimisation.

To help you decide on a theme, we are happy to show you examples of websites that convert better than others so you can decide for yourself if you like the theme.

Absolutely not. If you engage us, then you will pay us for the time taken to develop a custom theme for you, however, once the theme has been built, the theme belongs to you. There is no ongoing cost associated with a custom theme and any good Shopify developer will be able to modify the theme in the future. (Please make sure they are good though; there are a lot of pretenders.)

Shopify Plus pricing starts at $2000USD/month and you get a lot of enterprise capabilities for your money.
